My 2015 reflection *cheers*

A reflection back on 2015:

Not a smooth year, it had ups and downs. It went by way too quickly. My kids are getting older giving me insight to what teenage years could be like- yikes!

I’m grateful for opportunities to be able to be a recipe tester for people I admire and who are still teaching me new things!

I’ve been in taste bud overload with all the new book releases this year. Some I’ve followed for some time, others i’m wondering where the heck have you been all my life?

I’ve been lucky to win some books this year! That’s always a bonus! Sure some people don’t think it’s much- but between recipe testing, meeting new authors/chefs, winning books- this is like winning the lotto!

Least but not last, I’m happy to have met you! Let’s make 2016 even better!! Cheers to the new and old friends!!

I’m working on a few projects in the next few months which- all I can say is really exciting!! If this is all a dream- don’t pinch me, I don’t want to wake up lol (and I hope I can do this all year long)

May your 2016 be better than 2015, take time for your family, friends and yourself! Celebrate the little things, they can turn into bigger and greater things!

And don’t be a fool- don’t drink and drive, you may not think your life is worth it- but the person who’s life you take IS!

How to beat a vegan in an Aurgument

HOW TO BEAT A VEGAN IN AN ARGUMENT: Your step-by-step guide to justifying killing animals and destroying the planet…

Step 1: REMIND THEM THAT HUMANS HAVE BEEN EATING MEAT FOR THOUSANDS OF YEARS
No vegans are aware of this, but one thing they are aware of is that if humans have been doing something for thousands of years, it must be acceptable. After all, there’s nothing worse than moral progress!

Step 2: BECOME A PLANT RIGHTS ACTIVIST
Everybody knows that killing animals and killing plants is the same thing. Be sure to condemn a vegan driver if they swerve onto the grass to avoid running over your dog… they’d have only taken one life if they’d have just headed straight for Ol’ Yeller, but no, they had to take out an entire family of blades of grass instead.

Step 3: ASK THEM WHAT THEY’D DO IF THEY WERE STRANDED ON A DESERT ISLAND
Vegans are routinely stranded on desert islands. This is why many of them have beards.

Step 4: REMIND THEM THAT EATING MEAT ISN’T ILLEGAL
If politicians think something is okay, then it must be!

Step 5: SHOUT “BACON” REPEATEDLY
Vegans have never heard of this product. This will disorientate the vegan.

Step 6: POINT AT YOUR CANINE TEETH
Everyone knows that if you have a body part capable of doing something, that means it’s okay to do whatever it is that it/they can be used for. For consistency, be sure to sexually assault someone and then point at your dick when the police question you as to why you did it.

Step 7: TELL THEM THAT WE NEED TO EAT ANIMAL PRODUCTS TO SURVIVE
Many vegans are unaware of the fact that they are actually dead, much like Bruce Willis’ character in ‘The Sixth Sense’.

Step 8: TELL THEM THAT MEAT IS TASTY
No vegans are aware of this, since none of them have ever eaten meat in their entire lives.

Step 9: TELL THEM VEGAN FOOD TASTES LIKE SHIT
It’s a well known fact that not a single one of the 20,000 edible plant species on earth or the spices and other products derived from them are in the slightest bit appetising.

Step 10: REMIND THEM THAT THEY USE ELECTRICITY
Being involved in a justice movement is hypocritical if you use electricity. Be sure to also tell racial equality campaigners, gay rights activists and anti child abuse campaigners that their cause is pointless for the same reason.

Step 11: CALL THEM A PUSSY
Caring about stuff and siding with the weak and defenceless over the all-powerful masses is for pussies.

Step 12: REMIND THEM THAT YOUR SITUATION IS JUST LIKE A LION’S
Let them know about that one time you stalked your prey down in the meat aisle at Sainsbury’s, clutching a weapon fashioned out of plastic called a ‘credit card’.

Step 13: MAKE THEM AWARE OF HOW YOU EATING MEAT AND ANIMAL PRODUCTS ACTUALLY BENEFITS THINGS
Finally, make the vegan aware of all the good eating meat, cheese, milk, eggs, fish, etc. does for animals, the environment, and other humans. Seeing as veganism helps none of those things, this will make the vegan realise which is the cause REALLY worth fighting for.

Remembrance Day

Today, we are going to take a moment to honor the men and women who have risked their lives to make ours better. Many died, many didn’t return to their loved ones the same person that they were before they left.

It is said over at Canadian War Museum that over 100,000 people died during the wars. That’s a lot. Many people lied about their age, so they could join the Military.

I’ve had family member’s that fought in both World Wars, they didn’t come home alive. Instead, they left behind devastated wives and the young kids, or their mothers and fathers. I love researching family members, just to try to get a glimpse into their life. You can find out some really cool things. I found out that my great-grandfather was a rebel – a real bad ass. Now I know why I was such a “trouble” maker when I was younger. And where my mother got it from too…. see it’s all the genes 😉

Did you know you can search Books of Remembrance? You will be able to see some information, but it will give you a link back to the page it’s found on, and will even let you request a copy. I’ve done that and I have mine framed.

Veterans Affairs Canada has information about John McCrae the poet behind the famous poem: In Flanders Fields, it is also the site that I copied the poem from. Please take a visit and learn more about John. Such an incredible story about him. One can not even  imagine the horrors he and the others went through, well the Veterans can- but you and I don’t know what it was like.

IN FLANDERS FIELDS

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch, be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields

Take time to remember. Wear your poppy proudly. Stand tall.

A RETURN TO LOVE: Reflections on the Principles of A Course in Miracles

I have lived most of my life in ‘fear’…not understanding the true meaning of this ‘fear’ until I came across A Return To Love by Marianne Williamson.  I always knew there had to be something ‘more’ to us but I just couldn’t get a grasp on what that truly was until I read this book.

From a very young age, I observed humans ‘competing against one another’, ‘fighting one another’, ‘feeling guilty’, ‘feeling bad/shameful’ and I became confused about the world and its’ inhabitants and felt as though there had a to be a parallel universe and I was, mistakenly, sent to this one…seriously, I used to think that 🙂

When I read this book and listened to the audio, I started to ‘get it’ and I was finally able to breathe again…the confusion, the sadness slowly started to disappear.  Marianne Williamson teaches us how to live both as humans and as spiritual beings…something I struggled with for a very, very long time.
